he Wapsi river valley in Iowa is home to many types of wildlife. Turkey, deer, eagles and fish are seen just around the bend, peeking from the wood's edges, or splashing in the current.

After living here for over 5 years we finally purchased a flat-bottom boat and have spent all Summer exploring the area. Our favorite activities are swimming off the sandbars and looking for pretty rocks on the sandbars.

We are Rock Hounds in the amateure sense of "Oooooh!!11! Pretty rocks!" Most of the rocks we find are easily identified.. agate (covers most really pretty rocks ;-), sandstone, coal, neato (covers unusual shapes), fossil or shale.

But we have consistently found a small rock that has us baffled. Hubby thinks they are bits of meteorite but a friend had someone at a college look at them and he said it had to do with volcanos.

We'd really like to know what these are.. below are 2 photos with a penny to show the size. Occasionally we do find larger pieces but nothing bigger than a quarter. Further below links to more pictures.. both of this Mystery rock and to fossils and geodes. Also a link to some river pix I took with my digital camera.. originals can be had for pc desktops upon request.

If you can identify this rock.. please email me at rockmagic AT mistymage.com.
