Welcome to Burr Oak, home of the Laura Ingalls Wilder museum. It is located close to the Minnesota/Iowa border. Laura Ingalls Wilder live here from fall of 1876 to 1877. Burr Oak Iowa was named because of the many burr oak trees found in the area.

Burr Oak was founded in 1851 and its biggest attraction is Laura Ingalls Wilder. Many many years after Laura Ingalls Wilder left, in 1931, the bank was robbed of $1000 that same bank is being reastored by the museum.

Some of the things you can do near Burr Oak is visit the Laura Ingalls Wilder museum and just a few miles away there is Niagara Cave. It has a 60 foot waterfall, stalactites, and fossils.

You can also tour an Amish colony in southeast Minnesota. There you may purchase baskets, handmade furniture, baked goods and crafts.

Yet another local attraction is the Northeast Iowa Studio Artists' Tour which had its start in 1996. By 2004 it had 48 artists at 35 locations such as Decorah, Burr Oak, Calmar, Clermont, Cresco, New Albin, Spillville/Ft. Akinson, and St. Lucas.
