In my haste to get away from such a brutal monster I ran out the outside door... better that I had ran back to "elsewhere".
The sweet air belied the savage Eden I found myself in. A long drawn out howl rang in my ears as I ran and ran... where I was running to I had no idea. A large Blue Moon was shining in the evening sky. I caught glimpses of it as I raced through trees and brush.
My lungs ached and I was tripping left and right when a sudden blow to my back knocked me off my feet.
My sire stood glowering with drool flying and his red eyes glowing. A low snarl rumbled from his throat. As he bunched his legs for a leap that surely would end at my throat I raised my gun.
It was him or me and the odds were in my favor.
He circled me but I kept turning with him. The Blue Moon was right overhead and it's cold light hardened my heart.
Once more he howled and then he charged at me. The gun in my hand bucked as it spit out the silver bullets.. I emptied the chamber into my sire. By the fourth bullet he was knocked to the ground and dying but adrenaline kept my hand squeezing the trigger. At first my ears were deafened and shock had nearly driven me mad. As the click of an empty chamber repeated I finally dropped the hot and smoking weapon.
I fell to the ground near my sire and asked again, "Why? Why kill me, your pup?"
With the last of his strength he answered. "It's the way of the pack. You should have changed too, but even with the Blue Moon's rays caressing you, you still stand there as a halfling. If I didn't end your life others would have." He stretched his hand out and caught mine. "You're not safe yet, you know. This is a full Blue Moon... and that means if you don't do your duty I'll rise and turn into a real monster." He coughed and blood welled out of his mouth. "Do your duty... or take note that all who die and rise again will forever curse your name!" More blood choked its way out of his mouth and then his eyes stared blankly up. The Blue Moon was reflected in his dull red eyes.
So now I sit here... alone in a strange world and full of misery for the way things were and the way they should have been.. and full of my sire too!
